This class is for sailors who have a good handle on the basics and would like to gain access to our Race rigged Laser fleet. Jericho hosts races on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. The Laser has a long standing racing class that is quite active and exciting worldwide. They are also the only single handed boat in the fleet and can only be accessible through lessons, or proficiency exams, not through mentoring.

The expectation is that you have a good handle on sailing and have had at least a summer sailing on some type of skiff.  If you can't tie a bowline or are unsure of right of way rules out on the water you may want to consider the beginner sailing class.

If you are unsure if this is the right class for you feel free to contact the head instructor (

- Have completed the Beginners class and have spent at least 15 hours at the helm on the water.
- Be comfortable at the helm with tacking, gybing, launching and landing from the beach, in up to 15 knots of wind.

For new club members who have sailing experience you must feel comfortable with the following:

  • Tying basic knots
  • Knowing how to read wind and tide predictions.
  • Know all of the basic names for parts of a two person skiff.
  • Know right of way rules for both sail and power boats.
Please add yourself to the intermediate sailing waitlist if this class is full to be notified of upcoming availability.
