Intermediate Sailing Waitlist

This is a waitlist for intermediate sailing. Please add yourself to this waitlist if you are interested in participating in lessons but find they are full or the dates do not work for your schedule. We will notify you when new lessons become available. You may remove yourself from this waitlist once you are enrolled in a lesson or have been certified to avoid receiving emails.

About Intermediate Sailing:

This class is for sailors who have a good handle on the basics and would like to gain access to our Race rigged Laser fleet.   Jericho hosts races on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings.  The Laser has a long standing racing class that is quite active and exciting worldwide.  They are also the only single handed boat in the fleet. 

The expectation is that you have a good handle on sailing and have had at least a summer sailing on some type of skiff.  If you can't tie a bowline, are unsure of right of way rules out on the water, or feel you don't control your boat during a tack or a gybe you may want to consider the beginners class.

Prerequisites: 

Be comfortable as a skipper on a double-handed boat when doing the following in up to 15 knots of wind:

• launching from the beach
• tacking
• gybing
• sail trimming when heading up and when bearing off
• landing at the beach
• capsize recovery

In addition, you must feel comfortable with the following:

• Tying basic knots 
• Knowing how to read wind and tide predictions. 
• Know all of the basic names for parts of a two person skiff. 
• Know right of way rules for both sail and power boats.
