Beginner Wingsurfing L2.5 with Lenka, June 9-12 (three sessions)

Prerequisites:

• registered as a JSCA member for the current season
• registered as a UBC Sailing Club member for the current season
• at least 10 times on the water in a range of conditions after completing intermediate windsurfing

• ability to sail upwind with and without a centreboard

• able to tack, gybe

•  thick long-legged wetsuit

The aim of this class is to get you out on the water ASAP and try a new sport. Learn basic handling of wing, self-rescue and the mechanics of using wing and moving across the water on a long board. Get ready to get wet, swim, carry, launch and maneuver equipment in the water while you learn:

• How to read conditions
• Safety precautions and obstacles
• Launch and land safely
• Safe storage, selection, management and care of equipment
• Handling the wing; 
• Steering, points of sail, right of way
• 180-degree turn
  
• Wingsurfing Tack (luffing)
• Wingsurfing Gybe (bearing off)
• Self-rescue

For you to pass the course, your instructor must feel confident in your ability to:

• Pump and take proper care of the very delicate wing in a safe manner, including thorough inspection before and after use.

• Able to keep upwind, steer, change direction in a safe manner on a long board;
• Be able to self-rescue back to shore at any point.
• Safely launch and show awareness of your surroundings on the water, know right-of-wayavoid obstacles and stay within the 5kt zone at all times.
