Beginner/Intermediate Sailing Refresher with Clément - Apr 29pm

The aim of this course is to give competent sailors with little recent experience the confidence to get back on the water safely.

If you feel really rusty and would like a more thorough course to return on the water, we encourage you to register for a Beginner Sailing course or a skill test session to qualify for a higher-level course.

Note: while the session shows 2pm to 8:30pm, for each individual student it will only last about 4 hours. The instructor will be present all afternoon/evening, so if you can make it early for better winds, do so, but if you can only come in the evening after work, you will still be able to use whatever wind remains.

Prerequisites:

• registered as a UBC Sailing Club member for the 2024-2025 season
• registered as a JSCA member for the 2024-2025 season
• previously passed our beginner or intermediate course
• wetsuit and suitable clothing for the conditions

Course content:
- RS Quest and Laser rigging review
- Review of procedures: down the ramp, launching, landing
- Basic handling: sail trim on all points of sail, tacking, gybing, heave-to
- Safety: capsize/turtle recovery including scooping recovery, man overboard
