Intermediate Sailing Refresher (Laser/Vanguard) with JB May 12-13

The aim of this course is to give competent sailors the confidence to get back on the water safely. For those who only sail the Laser or Vanguard, this is also an opportunity to get familiar with the other type of boat.

If you feel really rusty and would like a more thorough course to return on the water, we encourage you to register for an Intermediate Sailing course.

Prerequisites:

• registered as a UBC Sailing Club member for the 2023-2024 season
• previously sailed 10+ hours on Lasers after completing our intermediate course
• wetsuit

Course content:
- Laser and Vanguard Rigging
- Review of procedures: stepping the mast safely, down the ramp including impractical wind, launching, landing
- Basic handling: sail trim in various points of sail, tacking, gybing, heading vs tracking
- Advanced handling: roll tack, rudderless sailing, sail fan if low wind (Laser)
- Safety: capsize/turtle recovery, man overboard (Vanguard)

The fist session is an evening only, with basic theory and rigging. No wetsuit needed.

The second session is a full day on the water with a short break in the middle.
