Prerequisites:

  • Ability to swim and rig your kayak efficiently
  • Confidence to perform wet exits, solo and assisted-rescues
  • Intermediate paddling skills is desirable, but not mandatory

Note: If this class is full, you are welcome to join our waitlist on this Signal app group.

Rolling is the best way to recover from a capsize. Success is based mainly on proper technique and not on strength, meaning that all paddlers can benefit from some carefully personalized instruction. It will likely require you to practice a lot after the class, and finding a suitable partner to do this with is a must!

During the 5 hours (2 sessions of 2.5h each, in the evening) of total instruction we will work primarily on two aspects:

  • get you comfortable under water, and
  • go through all of the steps necessary to execute a roll.

It is also recommended that you wear additional layers under and over your wetsuit, and you’re welcome to bring ear plug if you need them.

If you are unsure if this is the right class for you, feel free to contact our head instructor at headinstructor@ubcsailing.org.

What should you wear? Please look at this page.
