Registration

Intermediate Kayak – $60.00
Members must submit payment to reserve a spot. A reservation may be canceled up to 7 days before the start of class.

Registration is closed

Prerequisites:

registered as a UBC Sailing Club member for the 2022-2023 season
a significant amount of time (around 20 hours) kayaking after the beginner course
wetsuit

This course cover material that will help you safely plan and enjoy kayaking trips, balancing dry land instruction with on-water skill development.

Theory

Navigation, tides/currents, weather, sea state, signaling/communication for paddler
Multi-day trip planning

Paddling skills

Efficient and effective strokes (forward, turning, bow/stern rudders, stopping, sideward displacement, low & high braces)
Boat edging and dynamic stroke combinations

Rescue and safety skills

Self-rescue techniques (intro to rolling, paddle float, stern climb)
Assisted rescue techniques (heel hook/T, bow presentation, scoop, stirrup, all-in, hand of God, etc)
Towing skills (contact, tow-line)
