One Last Summer Sunset – A Jericho Beach Party

We’ll have our famous sangria, Howe Sound beer and delicious burgers available all night so remember to bring some cash with you. Come dance the night away to the funky stylings of The Werewolves – masters at re-imagining your favourite songs with a funk, roots and reggae feel!

Beach Party Volunteers Needed

Looking for a way to get some work hours? We need people to help with bar tending, BBQ, ticket taking and clean up for the party on September 9. We’ll also need some people to help with set up on the evening of Friday, September 8. You will be credited with work hours for the time you volunteer. Volunteers who complete two or more shifts get free admission to the party. All clean-up hours worked between 2 and 4 am will get double work hours. Email and let us know when you’re available if you’re interested in volunteering.

Fall Skiff Lessons

New Advanced 1 and 2 lessons have been scheduled in September. Get qualified for the RS500, our super sweet single trapeze skiff with spinnaker!

Advanced 1: Sept 9 (evening), 9, 10, and 16
Advanced 2: Sept 21, 23, and 24

Prerequisite For Advanced 1 is having passed Intermediate, and put it at least 15 additional hours on the Laser.

Costume Sail

When: Saturday September 2nd
Time: 1pm -5pm.
Where: By the boats! BBQ at the picnic area afterwards.

Dress up however you feel – I’m going to be wearing a banana suit. Pirate costumes, suits, lederhosen, superheroes, its all good!

Try Sailing

We’ll be hosting our last Try Sailing of the year on Saturday, September 9th. We’re looking for as many volunteers as we can get to take students out sailing in exchange for work hours.

We’ll be showing up at ~11am to rig up the boats in preparation for students arriving at noon.

Catamaran Capsizing Clinic

When:Sunday, September 3rd

Feeling rusty or anxious about capsizing the cats? Fear no more – we’ll be reviewing capsize procedures for Hobies and F18s as well as demonstrating how to use the righting bag, how to do a scoop recovery on the F18 and tips and tricks for righting the boats. This will mostly be a demonstration session, but you’re welcome to join and get some practice in

Imagine Day

We’ll be setting up a booth at UBC’s Imagine Day to promote the club and upcoming events like Try Sailing and the Hangar Party. The Main Event goes from 1pm-4:30pm On Tuesday, September 5th.

We’re looking for a few volunteers to help man the booth and promote the club to first year students.

Kayaking Updates

– Monday 28th 5:30-8:30PM Kayaking Rolling Skills Session.
Join the second Rolling Session of the season – kayak certified AND UBC Sailing Club members only. Bring your wetsuits and plan to be ready by 5:30 by the kayaks. Sign up here.

– September 22nd to 25th: 4-day kayak trip to the Broken Group.
Trip is capped at 6-7 people, dependent on car availability and weather forecast. Kayak certified members only, of intermediate ability. Distances to be covered range between 20 to 30 km, in variable conditions. Overnight camping experience required. If interested, please email

UBC Regatta

When: Saturday & Sunday September 16th, 17th

Come out in any of our boats for a fun weekend of racing. Fleets with at least three boats get an official start, so grab some friends, lay down a challenge and get racing. Lasers, FJs, Vanguards, Hobies, Skiffs, F18s are all welcome.

There will be a licensed BBQ on Saturday evening with smokies/burgers and refreshments, so come for the racing and stay for the sunset BBQ.
