  Unlike our Fall General Meeting, the Spring General Meeting will be less formal and will be quite brief. There will also be free BBQ for members and $5 BBQ for guests. Please RSVP so we have an idea of how much food to get and to pay for any guests.

  We'll either be in the Rugby Room or Jericho's Picnic Table Area depending on weather.

  Sunshine is here so its time to get sailing ! Join us on the water for the first race of our fun Regatta series on may 18th at 10am. This is a race for sailors at any skill level! It will feature pure excitement, fun awards, and delicious ice cream after the race! 

  Meet us at 10am for the pre-race on-land briefing at the picnic tables at Jericho Sailing Center. There will be time to go over the race course and pair up helm and crew. If you’re coming by yourself, that’s great! We‘ll match you with a sailing partner.

  Provided all Quests are crewed, the course will also be open to other boat classes.. Break out your most aerodynamic attire and RSVP to help us with the logistics. Guests and members of other clubs are welcome as well!

  This Women's * Sailing social is a great way to meet other women* in the Club, hone up skills and learn new ones in a supportive and friendly environment. Women* will be paired up depending on skill level so more experienced sailors can share some of their skills and wisdom with more beginner level sailors.
  There is no agenda for this evening and it will all  be very informal. Day of, you can discuss what skills you would like refreshed or what new skills you'd like to try with your sailing partner. Please do register for the event and answer all the questions so we can get an idea of your current level and what you're interested in getting out of this evening.
  *The term women" is inclusive of cis and trans women as well as non-binary folks.

  Well, howdy partner. Time to dust off your cowboy hats, water guns, and break out the bandannas for a hog-tyin’ time! The UBCSC is gettin’ in a tizzy for the Wild West regatta on June 1st at 12pm. Why keep barkin’ at a knot when you can burn the breeze? There will be awards for best costume, most objects on water lassoed, and the most soaked, either by getting sprayed by a rival or bucked off your ride. Register for five pretty pennies ($5) and get yourself a hot diggity dog to refuel after your long journey. See y’all! 
  Join us on the water for the next race in our Regatta series on Sep 10 at noon. This is a race for sailors, windsurfers, and kayakers at any skill level!

  Meet us at 12:00pm for the pre-race on-land briefing at the picnic tables at Jericho Sailing Center, all newcomers will get a chance to become familiar with the rules of racing. Windsurfers and kayaks are welcome to participate as well. RSVP to help us with the logistics. Guests and members of other clubs are most welcome as well!

  Do you want to get a taste of sailing the ocean along the beautiful beaches of Vancouver? Join us on Saturday, June 15 anytime between noon and 5pm at Jericho Sailing Centre. Seasoned members will take you out for a cruise! You get a chance to learn all about our sailboats, the club, and the exhilarating feeling of being out on a boat with wind and water!

  This is a free event for UBCSC members (our social membership is CAD 1.00). No sailing experience is necessary. Stay around after your sail for ice cream and get to know fellow ocean enthusiasts! We will also have a photographer boat to capture those moments on the water for you!

  Clothing: Bring a swimsuit, towel, or clothes that can get potentially wet!

  Registrants must be at least 18 years old. Registration fee for non-members is not refundable.

  Ahoy, UBC Sailors! And a special shout-out to all sea enthusiasts, experienced or not! It's time to navigate the waters, celebrate our community, and add a splash of color to our gear. Get ready to make waves at our Coastal Course Relay & Tie Dye Chipotle Event!All Hands On Deck!Whether you've sailed before or have never stepped into a kayak, this is your perfect opportunity. Non-members are welcomed! Pair up with an experienced UBC Sailor and test out your sea legs!   Relay Race Highlights  1. Kayaking Kicks-Off!   - Ready, set, paddle! Show off your speed in a kayak and set the pace for the teams!   2. Windsurfing Whirlwind   -Harness the wind and show your skill! Participants will need to navigate upwind and make their way around a buoy before handing off to the sailing team.   3. Sailing to the Finish   - Hoist the sail, catch the perfect wind, and navigate your way to victory. The sailors will need to rescue a floating object and bring it back to shore to finish the race. Which team will be crowned champions of the ocean?   Tie-Dye Tees Fiesta  Ever wanted a UBC Sailing T-shirt with your unique touch?   Our kayak fleet will be accompanied by a motorized safety boat. Waterproof headlamps are required for all participants. We encourage glow in the dark attire so make you extra bright on the water. This event is only open to active members of the UBCSC, and all participants must be kayak certified to attend this social.

• Keats Island Sailing Trip

  We are very excited to announce this year's trip to Keats Island! It will take place on BC day long weekend from August 2 to August 5. The Keats trip is our biggest annual trip. A large fleet of UBCSC sail boats will face the elements and brave the seas from Jericho beach to Keats Island opposite the town of Gibsons in Howe Sound. We will camp at Plumper Cove Provincial Park on Keats Island (with loads of fun activities, food, swimming in bioluminescent water, bonfires, and socializing) until Monday morning, August 5, then sail back to Jericho to arrive in the afternoon/evening.

  If you're asking "What if I've only done my beginner lesson and don't feel comfortable sailing across the Georgia Straight, can I still be part of the AWESOME party at Keats?" (Or alternatively "I have a friend/spouse who is not a member of the UBC Sailing Club, can they still be part of the AWESOME party at Keats?") Our answer: "Of course!! There are several spots available to take the water taxi over."

  All Keats participants have to attend the mandatory in-person pre-trip meeting on  Tuesday June 20th at 7pm at JSCA. For those who would like to sail to Keats and not take the water taxi, there are some additional trip requirements:

  • Every Keats sailor has to attend the capsize training and work party with their sailing partner on Saturday, June 24. We will start at 9am with the pre-trip meeting at the JSCA member room. This is followed by a capsize recovery training where each team practices 5 capsizes and demonstrates ability of swift recovery  (C2/C3/A2/A3 certified sailors are exempt from this requirement but strongly encouraged to participate). After that you and your partner need to check your boat for seaworthiness and fix any issues at the work party. If your boat is not in seaworthy condition, you will not be able to sail to Keats. 

  On our sail to Keats, we will be accompanied by several motorized safety boats. Please make sure to read about the trip safety details in our Keats trip safety plan. 

  Cost of trip

  The cost of the trip is $195 per participant. It covers all cost from motor boat fleet rental, meals, camp site reservation, to water taxi logistics and fuel. It also includes a safety margin that, if not spent, will go towards the club fleet maintenance or the social budget where it will be used to organize future fun events, like a Keats after-party!

  In the unlikely event that the trip has to be cancelled by the organizers, e.g. due to adverse weather conditions, we will try our best to recover parts of the trip cost and refund them back to the participants. However, since most of the trip expenses have to be paid by the club regardless, the majority of the trip fee will be non-refundable. 

  No refunds for individual cancellations.

  Registration for the trip will begin soon after the Keats info session on May 25. To register for the trip, register on the waitlist! The Keats committee will check that participants meet an overall sufficient sailing proficiency requirement to ensure the safety of the trip. Once registration opens, the Keats committee will manually register waitlisted participants. Spots are limited so the waitlist registration does not guarantee a spot on the trip. Payment will only be due once registered for the trip.

  Important dates

  • June 20, 7pm (Tuesday): Keats Pre-Trip Meeting at JSCA
  • June 24, 9am (Saturday): Mandatory pre-trip meeting for all participants (sailors + water taxi). Followed my mandatory capsize training and Keats work party (sailors only).
  • July 1, 6:30am (Saturday) arrival at Jericho to prepare for departure at 9am. Return to Jericho on Monday evening.

  Volunteer opportunities

  The Keats trip is a major event with many logistical challenges. All attendants will take part in one or more distributed tasks like grocery shopping, meal cooking, campsite clean-up. These duties of this will be distributed at the pre-trip meeting on June 24.
